About

This blog began as a private site Paulo Campos used to write a daily writing exercise. He wrote ten minute responses to a randomly generated Flickr image (tagged "interesting"). The aim was to write something every day, even if it was only a couple hundred words.  Making rough, messy work public is freaky though.

Two things changed that.  First, he told his writing group and wife (all excellent readers) about this site and was interested not only in what they thought but being held accountable for writing daily. Second, writing every day lead him to think about elements of fiction.  What works; what doesn’t.

This blog now publishes
  • a daily picture prompt and a piece of creative writing, usually written in about ten minutes
  • near daily advice and thoughts about writing fiction
Stephen Maher, a fellow member of Paulo's writing group (he's one of those excellent readers), joined the site a month or so after it went public.  We select pictures on alternate days and invite any readers to use those pictures as inspiration for their own work.

If you have any interest in writing a guest post about writing fiction please contact Paulo.

You can find out more about his work in interviews with Evolve Journal and the blog consultant and photographer, Drew Bennett.

Thanks for reading.  We hope you enjoy our site!
